Training and Development

Our mission

To put people first – delivering expert, accessible and client-focused legal solutions through a professional, friendly and collaborative approach.  We champion our clients’ goals and support them through life’s key moments, while fostering a respectful, forward-thinking culture that empowers, develops and inspires our teams.

Training and development is where that mission is lived out for our own people, not just our clients.

How we approach it

As a firm, we engage with our employees about personal development and place real importance on fostering a friendly, supportive environment where everyone can do their best work and talent can flourish.  We recognise talent and support people who want to develop their careers in specific areas of law and business – for support staff and lawyers alike.  We take time to understand people’s career aspirations, help identify the goals that matter to them, keep those under review, and provide help and support along the way.

That’s what excellence looks like here: not a slogan, but a habit – built through every training session, every course, every conversation that helps someone develop.

What that looks like in practice

We tailor training and development to individual needs, with a variety of programmes – from in-house training courses for legal and core skills, to external courses for professional development .  We want our people to be motivated by varied, challenging work, and we tend to work at a fast pace.

There are many different routes into a legal career.  Among others, we offer:

  • Training contracts to become a solicitor
  • Training pathways for paralegals and trainee CILEX lawyers and CLC-licensed conveyancers
  • Progression paths for support staff
  • Legal work placement schemes for law degree students
  • Legal administration apprenticeships
  • Work experience programmes, with a particular focus on supporting students from the local community

Grow our own

We have a real grow-our-own culture and a strong track record of supporting employees to develop in their legal careers.  We proactively talk to our people about training needs – whether that’s filling a gap in knowledge or skills, enhancing performance, or preparing for the next step in a career.

We encourage staff to own their training and to keep their continuing professional development plans up to date.

This is also where the values of adaptability and collaboration come to life day to day: training plans change as people and priorities change and the best development usually comes from working alongside others, not from a course alone.

Our aim is to support you to achieve Far more and to work with you to realise your potential.

If one of these opportunities is right for you, we’d be pleased to hear from you. Please send your CV to HR@Farnfields.com
